Osgood-Schlatter Disease

Osgood-Schlatter Disease is a common knee condition that often affects active children and teenagers, especially those involved in sports. It occurs when the growth plate just below the knee, where the kneecap tendon attaches, becomes irritated and inflamed. This can cause pain, swelling, and tenderness in the area, particularly during activities like running or jumping. Although it can be uncomfortable, Osgood-Schlatter is generally not serious and often resolves on its own as a child’s bones fully develop. Treatment typically includes rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain medications.
