ORIF (Open Reduction and Internal Fixation)

Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) is a surgical procedure used to repair broken bones. "Open reduction" means the surgeon makes an incision to access the fracture and realign the bone pieces to their proper position. "Internal fixation" involves using metal implants like plates, screws, or rods to hold the bones securely together. This approach ensures proper healing, restores function, and minimizes the risk of the bone healing improperly. ORIF is commonly used for complex fractures that cannot be aligned and stabilized through less invasive methods.
