Orientation and mobility
Orientation and mobility (O&M) are skills that help individuals who are visually impaired or blind navigate their environment safely and independently. Orientation involves understanding one’s position in space and recognizing landmarks or cues to determine where they are. Mobility refers to moving through different environments confidently, using tools like canes, guides, or technology. Together, these skills enable a person to plan routes, avoid obstacles, and reach destinations, promoting independence and safety in daily life. O&M training is tailored to each person's needs and environments, fostering confidence and self-sufficiency.
