Oriental Orthodox Churches

The Oriental Orthodox Churches are a family of Christian churches that originated in Egypt, Armenia, Ethiopia, and Syria. They split from the broader Christian community after the Council of Chalcedon in 451 CE due to differences in Christological beliefs, particularly about the nature of Jesus Christ. They emphasize the unity of Christ’s divine and human natures and have distinct liturgical traditions, practices, and doctrines. Despite their historical separation, they share beliefs in the Trinity, apostolic succession, and the veneration of saints, maintaining an important spiritual and cultural presence in their respective regions.
