Organisation of African Unity (OAU)

The Organisation of African Unity (OAU), established in 1963, was a regional organization aimed at promoting unity, cooperation, and independence among African countries. Its goals included supporting decolonization, defending sovereignty, and fostering economic development across the continent. The OAU also sought to resolve conflicts peacefully and represent Africa’s interests globally. In 2001, it was replaced by the African Union (AU), which continues to pursue these objectives with a broader focus on political stability, integration, and economic growth. The OAU was important in strengthening African solidarity and independence during its time.
