Organisation Armée Secrète
The Organisation Armée Secrète (OAS) was a clandestine French militant group active during the early 1960s, primarily opposing Algeria’s independence from France. Comprising military and paramilitary members, the OAS sought to prevent Algerian independence through violent acts, including bombings, assassinations, and sabotage. Their goal was to keep Algeria a French territory, reflecting deep political and cultural tensions. The group operated secretly, engaging in covert operations and violent campaigns, which contributed to a turbulent period during the Algerian War of Independence. The OAS ultimately disbanded as France moved toward ending its colonial rule in Algeria.
