Organ Donation and Transplantation
Organ donation is when a person willingly gives their healthy organs, such as kidneys, heart, or liver, for transplantation after death or during their lifetime. Transplantation is the surgical process of replacing a damaged or failing organ with a healthy one from a donor. These procedures can save or greatly improve lives by restoring function. Donors can be deceased or living (e.g., a kidney or part of the liver), and consent is essential. Organ donation relies on awareness, ethical practices, and a system of matching donors with recipients to ensure those in need receive timely, life-saving transplants.
