Orange County Rigs-to-Reefs Program

The Orange County Rigs-to-Reefs Program transforms retired offshore oil and gas platforms into artificial reefs to boost marine habitats. Once decommissioned, instead of removing the structures entirely, they are carefully modified and left in place to serve as habitats for fish and other marine life. This program supports marine biodiversity, enhances local fishing and diving opportunities, and reduces the environmental and economic costs of full removal.
