Oral contraceptive pills

Oral contraceptive pills, commonly known as birth control pills, are medications taken by women to prevent pregnancy. They contain hormones—usually estrogen and progestin—that work by stopping ovulation, which means no egg is released for fertilization. They also thicken cervical mucus to block sperm entry and thin the uterine lining to make it less receptive to an egg. When taken correctly every day, they are highly effective in preventing pregnancy. However, they do not protect against sexually transmitted infections. It’s important to use them consistently and consult a healthcare provider for proper guidance.
