Optical Time Domain Reflectometry
Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) is a technique used to test and analyze fiber optic cables. It sends a laser pulse down the fiber and measures the light that is reflected back at different points. These reflections occur at imperfections, bends, or breaks in the cable. By timing how long each reflection takes to return, OTDR creates a detailed map of the fiber’s condition, identifying faults or damage without cutting into the cable. This process helps technicians quickly locate issues and maintain the integrity of fiber optic networks efficiently.
