Optical Label Switching

Optical Label Switching (OLS) is a technology used in high-speed networks to efficiently direct data traffic. It assigns labels, or identifiers, to data streams at the optical (light-based) level, enabling quick and flexible routing without converting light signals into electronic signals. This process allows network devices to recognize and forward data based on these labels, reducing latency and increasing throughput. Essentially, OLS helps manage large volumes of data by quickly guiding light-based signals through the network, improving speed and reliability for bandwidth-intensive applications like internet services and data centers.
