Optical Brightening Agents
Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs) are chemicals added to fabrics, paper, and detergents that make materials look whiter and brighter. They work by absorbing ultraviolet light and emitting a visible blue glow, which counteracts yellow or dull tones, giving the appearance of increased whiteness. Commonly used in laundry detergents, paper products, and textiles, OBAs do not actually bleach or whiten but enhance the visual brightness of materials under normal lighting. They are safe and widely used to improve the appearance of everyday products by making them look cleaner and newer.
