Optic Nerve Hypoplasia

Optic Nerve Hypoplasia (ONH) is a condition where the optic nerves, which connect the eyes to the brain and transmit visual information, are underdeveloped or smaller than normal. This can lead to partial or complete vision loss depending on the severity. ONH may occur in one or both eyes and can be associated with other neurological or hormonal issues. The exact cause isn’t always known, but it’s believed to involve abnormal development during early pregnancy. Diagnosis typically involves eye exams, imaging, and neurological assessments. While some individuals have significant vision problems, others may retain partial sight.
