Operation Vijay (Kargil)
Operation Vijay was the Indian military effort to reclaim territory in Kargil, located in the conflict zone of Ladakh, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, during the 1999 Kargil War. Pakistani soldiers and militants had infiltrated high-altitude mountain positions, posing a strategic threat to India. The Indian Armed Forces launched a coordinated campaign involving artillery, airpower, and ground troops to recapture these peaks. The operation restored Indian sovereignty over the region and demonstrated India’s resolve in defending its borders, ultimately leading to Pakistan’s withdrawal from occupied positions in Kargil.
