Operation Shingle

Operation Shingle was an Allied military campaign during World War II, launched in January 1944. It involved an amphibious assault on the Italian city of Anzio, south of Rome, aimed at breaking through German defenses and facilitating the rapid advance of Allied forces into Italy. The operation sought to outflank German positions and accelerate the defeat of Italian and German forces in the region. Despite initial delays and tough fighting, it ultimately contributed to the liberation of Rome and weakened German hold on Italy, playing a key role in the broader Italian Campaign.
