Operation Paukenschlag

Operation Paukenschlag, also known as the "Green Boar" operation, was a German naval campaign during World War II in early 1942. The German U-boat fleet targeted shipping off the east coast of the United States, aiming to disrupt Allied supplies. Using newly developed, stealthy submarines, they sank numerous cargo ships, causing significant damage and sowing fear along the American coast. This operation marked a shift to more aggressive, unrestricted submarine warfare in US waters, forcing the Allies to adapt their defenses and shipping strategies to protect vital supplies and maintain the war effort.
