Operation Nimrod
Operation Nimrod was a military rescue mission carried out by British special forces in 1980 during the Iran-Iraq War. Its goal was to free five British employees held hostage in the Iranian Embassy in London, who had been taken by militants demanding Iran’s independence. The operation involved a swift, covert assault on the embassy to rescue the hostages. Although the operation rescued most hostages, it resulted in the deaths of four hostage-takers and one police officer. Operation Nimrod is remembered for its daring and precision, highlighting the UK's commitment to protecting its citizens and upholding diplomatic integrity.
