Operation Karbala

Operation Karbala was a military campaign launched by Iranian forces in 1987 during the Iran-Iraq War. Its goal was to regain territory lost to Iraqi advances and to weaken Iraq's military capabilities. The operation involved coordinated ground assaults and strategic use of artillery, aiming to break Iraqi defenses. Named after the historic Battle of Karbala, the campaign highlighted Iran’s determination to resist Iraqi aggression. Despite intense fighting, it resulted in limited territorial gains but contributed to Iran’s broader efforts to sustain its war effort and assert its military resilience.
