Operation Gatekeeper
Operation Gatekeeper was a U.S. border enforcement initiative launched in 1994 to control illegal immigration at the California-Mexico border. It increased staffing, infrastructure, and regulations to prevent unauthorized crossings, especially around the San Diego area. The program aimed to reduce illegal entry while facilitating lawful border crossings through enhanced technology and patrols. While it successfully decreased illegal crossings in some regions, it also led to increased border congestion and humanitarian concerns, highlighting the challenges of managing immigration and border security effectively.
