Operation Crossroads

Operation Crossroads was a series of nuclear tests conducted by the United States in the Pacific in 1946, after World War II. The primary goal was to study the effects of nuclear explosions on naval vessels, as the military sought to understand how atomic bombs could impact naval warfare. The tests took place at Bikini Atoll, where two bombs were detonated: one above water and one underwater. These tests provided valuable data on nuclear weapons, radiation effects, and the resilience of ships, influencing future military strategies and the development of nuclear policy during the Cold War.
