Operation Cottage

Operation Cottage was the Allied military campaign in July 1943 to reclaim Attu Island in Alaska from Japanese forces. It involved a combined effort of U.S. and Canadian troops who landed on the island, which had been occupied by Japan since 1942. The operation aimed to eliminate the Japanese presence, secure the Alaska-Aleutian campaign, and improve defense positions. Despite encountering fierce resistance and challenging terrain, the Allies successfully recaptured Attu, ending Japanese control there. This campaign was significant as part of the broader Pacific Theater efforts during World War II.
