Operation CHAOS

Operation CHAOS was a secret U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) program during the 1960s and early 1970s aimed at monitoring and disrupting political activities of domestic groups considered radical or subversive, particularly those linked to anti-Vietnam War protests and civil rights movements. It involved covert operations to gather intelligence and sometimes interfere with political organizations within the United States, often without public knowledge or approval. The program was part of broader efforts during the Cold War to counteract perceived threats from leftist activism, but its clandestine nature raised concerns about government overreach and violation of citizens’ rights.
