Operation Cartwheel
Operation Cartwheel was a major military campaign during World War II aimed at neutralizing Japanese forces in the Pacific, particularly in New Guinea and the surrounding regions. Led by the Allies, especially the United States and Australia, it focused on capturing strategically important islands and establishing radar and air bases. This strategic progression cut off Japanese supply lines and enabled Allied advances toward Japan. The operation was part of a broader "island-hopping" strategy, circumventing some heavily fortified islands to focus on key positions that would support a final push toward Japanese home islands.
