Operation Anadyr

Operation Anadyr was the Soviet Union's secret plan during the Cold War to deploy nuclear missiles to Cuba in 1962. The goal was to strengthen Cuba’s military defense and counter U.S. influence in the region. The operation involved covertly transporting and installing medium-range missiles capable of reaching much of the United States. When the U.S. discovered the missile sites through reconnaissance, it led to the Cuban Missile Crisis, a tense standoff that nearly brought the world to war. The operation was ultimately successful in secretly positioning the missiles but contributed to escalating Cold War tensions.
