Operation Adaptation
Operation Adaptation was a strategic effort by U.S. military forces during the Vietnam War, starting around 1970. Its goal was to improve the ability of South Vietnamese forces to operate independently by training and equipping them more effectively. By shifting some responsibilities from U.S. troops to South Vietnamese soldiers, the operation aimed to make the allied forces more self-reliant and reduce dependence on American involvement. Essentially, it was a transition plan to empower local forces, strengthen their combat skills, and prepare them to take the lead in security and defense efforts, ultimately aiming for a gradual U.S. withdrawal.
