Operação Condor

Operação Condor was a secret cooperation effort among South American military dictatorships during the 1970s and 1980s. It aimed to eliminate political opponents across countries like Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Brazil. Using shared intelligence, kidnappings, torture, and disappearances, these regimes targeted leftists, activists, and anyone suspected of dissent. The operation allowed these governments to coordinate repression beyond their borders, often with tacit support from the United States. It is remembered as a grave violation of human rights, showcasing how authoritarian regimes collaborated in suppressing democracy and often committing serious crimes against their own populations.
