OpenDoc
OpenDoc was a software framework developed in the 1990s that aimed to allow different applications to share and work on complex documents seamlessly. Instead of creating a single, monolithic program for a document type, OpenDoc enabled various specialized tools—like a word processor, a spreadsheet, or a graphics editor—to collaborate within one unified environment. Users could insert, edit, and interact with different content types without switching applications, making workflows more flexible. Although it was innovative, OpenDoc didn't achieve widespread adoption and eventually became discontinued, but its goal was to promote interoperability and integrated document editing across different software tools.
