Open circuit cooling tower
An open circuit cooling tower is a device used to remove heat from industrial processes or large air conditioning systems. It works by allowing hot water from the equipment to be cooled down through exposed, wetted surfaces where air is blown across. As air contacts the water, some heat and evaporation occur, lowering the water temperature before it is recirculated. Since the water interacts directly with the surrounding air and is exposed to the environment, it is called an "open circuit." This design is effective for continuous cooling but requires maintenance to prevent contamination and mineral buildup.
