Onychocryptosis

Onychocryptosis, commonly known as an ingrown toenail, occurs when the edge of the nail grows into the surrounding skin. This can cause pain, redness, swelling, and sometimes infection. It often results from improper nail trimming, tight footwear, or injury. The condition may develop gradually or suddenly and is most common on the big toe. Treatment includes soaking the foot, proper nail trimming, and sometimes medical procedures to remove or correct the affected nail portion. Preventative care, like wearing well-fitting shoes and gentle nail cutting, can help avoid recurrence.
