oncogenic HPV
Oncogenic HPV refers to specific types of human papillomavirus that have the potential to cause cancer, particularly of the cervix, but also other areas like the mouth and throat. These high-risk HPV types can integrate into the body's cells, leading to genetic changes that may result in abnormal cell growth and, over time, cancer. Many HPV infections are temporary and resolve on their own, but persistent infection with high-risk types increases the risk of developing cancer. HPV is primarily transmitted through sexual contact, and vaccines and regular screening help reduce the associated cancer risk.
