Oncogene Theory

The Oncogene Theory explains how some changes in our genes can lead to cancer. Genes called proto-oncogenes normally help control cell growth and division. When these genes become mutated or overly active, they turn into oncogenes, which promote uncontrolled cell growth. This unchecked growth can form tumors and spread, leading to cancer. Essentially, the theory shows that certain genetic changes can switch genes from normal growth regulators to drivers of cancer, highlighting the importance of genetics in understanding how cancer develops and potentially guiding targeted treatments.
