Olympic Project for Human Rights

The Olympic Project for Human Rights (OPHR) was an advocacy group formed in 1968 aimed at promoting racial equality and protesting racial discrimination in sports, particularly within the U.S. Olympic team. It sought to challenge the exclusion of talented Black athletes and highlight issues of racial injustice. The organization was associated with notable athletes and activists who opposed the IOC's policies and called for greater diversity and representation. Although it was short-lived, OPHR played a role in raising awareness about racial inequality in athletics, contributing indirectly to the broader civil rights movements and dialogues around inclusivity in sports.
