Olympe de Gouges

Olympe de Gouges was a French playwright and political activist in the late 18th century, best known for advocating women's rights. She authored the "Declaration of the Rights of Woman and of the Female Citizen" in 1791, challenging the male-centered ideas of her time and calling for gender equality. De Gouges believed that women should have the same rights as men, including political participation and legal recognition. Her courageous efforts made her a pioneering figure in the fight for women's rights, but she faced opposition and was executed during the French Revolution for her outspoken beliefs.
