Old Tjikko
Old Tjikko is a very ancient spruce tree located in Sweden, estimated to be around 9,500 years old. Its remarkable age is due to a survival technique called clonal growth, where the tree's roots continuously produce new trunk stems over time, effectively creating a genetic clone of itself. This method allows the 'tree' to persist for millennia, even as individual trunks die and regrow. Old Tjikko is a natural example of longevity and resilience, providing valuable insights into forest history and climate changes over thousands of years.
