Oladuah Equiano

Olaudah Equiano was an African writer and abolitionist born around 1745 in what is now Nigeria. He was kidnapped as a child and sold into slavery, eventually gaining his freedom. Equiano became an influential figure in the movement to end the transatlantic slave trade. His autobiography, "The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano," published in 1789, detailed his experiences and highlighted the horrors of slavery. His writings helped raise awareness and support for abolition, making him a key figure in 18th-century discussions about human rights and social justice. He died in 1797 in London.
