Oklahoma Panhandle

The Oklahoma Panhandle is a narrow, rectangular strip of land in the northwestern part of Oklahoma, bordered by Kansas to the north, Texas to the south, and Colorado and New Mexico to the west. It measures about 165 miles long and 34 miles wide. Historically, it was part of Texas but became part of Oklahoma in 1907. The region is mostly rural, with a landscape characterized by plains and agriculture. Its unique shape results from historical borders and geographic factors, making it a distinct geographic area within Oklahoma.
