Oilsands
Oilsands, also known as tar sands, are deposits of a mixture of sand, clay, water, and bitumen—a thick, heavy form of crude oil. Extracting oil from oilsands involves mining the bitumen-rich sands or injecting steam underground to loosen the bitumen, which is then separated and refined into usable products like gasoline and diesel. While oilsands are a significant oil resource, their extraction is energy-intensive and has environmental impacts, including greenhouse gas emissions and land disturbance. They are primarily found in regions like Alberta, Canada, and are considered both an important energy source and a complex environmental issue.
