The Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) was a U.S. government agency responsible for overseeing and regulating thrift institutions, which are savings and loan associations focused on accepting deposits and providing home mortgages. Established in 1989, its role included ensuring the financial health of these institutions, protecting consumers, and maintaining the stability of the savings and loan industry. In 2011, the OTS was dissolved, and its functions were transferred to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), streamlining financial regulation in the U.S.
