Office of the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO)

The Office of the Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO) is an independent unit that reviews and investigates complaints related to the World Bank's projects. Its role is to ensure the Bank's operations are environmentally, socially, and financially responsible. If communities, workers, or other stakeholders believe a project is causing harm or not following standards, they can raise concerns with the CAO. The CAO then assesses these issues and works to resolve problems, promote accountability, and recommend improvements to prevent future harms, helping ensure projects are carried out ethically and responsibly.
