Office of Fair Trading (UK)
The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) was a UK government body responsible for promoting fair competition and protecting consumers. It investigated and addressed unfair business practices, prevented anti-competitive behavior, and ensured markets operated transparently. The OFT’s role was to make sure consumers had access to honest information and that companies competed fairly, helping to maintain a healthy, competitive economy. In 2014, its functions were transferred to other agencies, notably the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
