Oedipal complex

The Oedipal complex is a psychological concept introduced by Sigmund Freud, describing a child's subconscious feelings of desire for the parent of the opposite sex and rivalry with the parent of the same sex. Typically, boys may develop feelings of affection towards their mother and see their father as a rival, while girls may experience similar feelings toward their father.
