Ocular Surface Disease
Ocular Surface Disease (OSD) refers to a group of conditions that affect the outermost part of the eye, including the cornea and conjunctiva. It occurs when the eye's surface becomes unstable or inflamed, often leading to symptoms like dryness, redness, discomfort, burning, or a gritty sensation. Common causes include decreased tear production, increased tear evaporation, or inflammation. OSD can result from aging, environmental factors, medications, or underlying health issues. Proper diagnosis and tailored treatment, such as artificial tears, medications, or lifestyle changes, are essential to restore eye comfort and protect vision.
