Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study
The Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study (OHTS) was a research project that looked at people with high eye pressure (ocular hypertension) but no glaucoma damage yet. It aimed to see if lowering eye pressure with medication could prevent developing glaucoma, a condition that can cause vision loss. The study found that early treatment significantly reduced the risk of developing glaucoma in people with high eye pressure. This research helps eye doctors decide when to start treatment to protect vision and indicates that some people with elevated eye pressure may benefit from early intervention.
