oceanic zones

Oceanic zones are layers of the ocean classified by depth and light. The epipelagic zone, at the surface, receives sunlight and supports most marine life. Below it, the mesopelagic zone, or twilight zone, gets very little light, and creatures have adaptations to survive darkness and pressure. Next is the bathypelagic zone, pitch-dark and cold, where only special organisms can live. Further down is the abyssopelagic zone, near freezing and without light. Finally, the hadalpelagic zone covers the deepest ocean trenches. Each zone hosts different ecosystems shaped by light, pressure, and temperature.
