Occitan

Occitan is a Romance language primarily spoken in Southern France, as well as in some regions of Italy and Spain. It evolved from Vulgar Latin, similar to other Romance languages like French, Spanish, and Italian. Occitan features distinct regional dialects, such as Provençal and Languedocien, which reflect its diverse cultural heritage. Historically significant, it once flourished in literature, particularly during the Middle Ages, but has since faced decline due to the dominance of French. Today, efforts are underway to revive and promote its use among speakers and learners.
