Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (Pediatric)

Pediatric Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition in children characterized by unnecessary, repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) they feel driven to perform. These actions are often to reduce anxiety caused by obsessions. For example, a child might repeatedly wash their hands or check if doors are locked, even if these actions are not needed. OCD can interfere with daily life, school, and relationships. It’s believed to involve abnormalities in brain circuits related to anxiety and control. Treatment typically includes therapy, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and sometimes medication to help manage symptoms.
