Oblate

An oblate is a sphere that's slightly flattened at the poles, so its shape resembles a squished ball. Imagine a globe that's wider around the equator than from pole to pole; that's an oblate shape. This occurs naturally due to rotation—spinning causes the material to push outward at the equator, making the shape wider there. Earth is an example of an oblate spheroid because its rotation causes it to be slightly wider at the equator than from pole to pole. This shape differs from a perfect sphere, which has the same diameter everywhere.
