Object Conservation

Object conservation is the understanding that an object’s quantity remains the same even if its appearance changes, such as its shape, size, or position. For example, if a ball of clay is flattened or rolled into a different shape, a person with conservation understands that it’s still the same amount of clay. This concept develops in childhood and reflects the ability to recognize that certain physical properties remain constant despite superficial changes. Conservation is essential for understanding logical reasoning and mathematical concepts later in life.
