OBERIU (Society for Real Art)

OBERIU, or the Society for Real Art, was a short-lived Russian avant-garde collective active in the late 1920s and early 1930s. It aimed to challenge conventional artistic norms through experimental and absurdist works, blending poetry, theater, visual art, and performance. OBERIU sought to explore the limits of language and reality, emphasizing spontaneity, individual expression, and the rejection of traditional aesthetics. While influential in shaping later avant-garde movements, its activities were suppressed by Soviet authorities, leading to its disbandment.
