Obeah
Obeah is a spiritual and religious practice originating in West Africa and Caribbean cultures, involving rituals, charms, and consultations aimed at healing, protection, or influence. Often misunderstood as black magic, it is a complex belief system that incorporates elements of African spirituality, Caribbean traditions, and sometimes colonial influences. Practitioners, called Obeah men or women, use herbs, symbols, and rituals to address personal issues, foster community well-being, or ward off harm. While historically associated with superstition, Obeah remains an important cultural expression and spiritual resource for many in the Caribbean, emphasizing connection to ancestral spirits and natural energies.
